On the war-torn battlefields of March of War, the situation can change in an instant. Certain victories can become crushing defeats and no foe can be underestimated. This makes the role of reconnaissance vital to the operations of any army and only the most resourceful soldiers are selected to be part of the elite scouting units.
Within the European army, this task is performed by the elite Dutch mobile infantry – the “Mobiele infanterie brigade”. Speed and subtlety is key to success in these maneuvers and the Dutch soldiers have proven themselves time and time again as the elite scouting unit of the European armies.
During the ferocious battles on the eastern front, the Dutch soldiers approached scouting in a traditional and pragmatic way – by mounting bikes which were ideally suited to the conditions of the Russian plain. This allowed them to traverse greater distances than conventional infantry and there were less reliant on resources than a mechanized brigade.
Charged with gathering vital tactical information in battle for the infantry divisions, the Dutch mobile infantry excelled at probing ahead and screening the flanks of the main advances. Headquartered in Alkmaar, the Dutch scouts are trained in all three disciplines of reconnaissance:
- terrain recon which focuses on the features and weather of the battlefield - force-orientated recon which surveys the disposition and number of enemy forces - Civil recon which focusses on civilian structures and areas.
This elitist training and preparation for anything that the battlefield can offer, makes the Dutch soldiers indispensable to battle planning and a vital unit for any general when planning offensive or defensive action.
On the battlefields of March of War, the Dutch soldiers rely mainly on their speed to offer their army an edge in both positioning and knowledge of the enemy. Perfectly suited for early rushes to the capture points or to contest capture points away from the main fight, the Dutch soldiers are a strong addition to the otherwise slow European army. They have some fighting capability but they are not intended to be used as frontline soldiers and will be expended if used as such.
