The term militia generally refers to fighting forces composed of non-professional fighters. Citizens that have been called upon to enter a situation of combat on orders of the Junta. When the Latin socialists were rebelling against their colonial masters, it was these armed civilians that were fighting in the streets and carrying for the standard of the revolution. They were performing assassinations, acts of terrorism and vandalism within the cities and once the Junta was established, the “Militia del Pueblo” took its honorary position within the armies of the Latin Junta.
The “Militia del Pueblo” as the peasant militia is being referred to on state occasions is in reality groups of armed thugs that have been given rudimentary training and firearms, looted from the now abandoned European arsenals. What they lack in training and expertise, the Militia more than makes up with brutality and intimidation. In a battle, they are not expected to hold their own against a well-trained and equipped enemy, but to stall him until heavier weaponry is brought in the engagement. That being said, the Militia are adept at using every dirty trick in the book if it helps them get an edge over their enemies. No skins.
