The “Kliment Voroshilov” heavy tank is a battle tank of the Soviet Red army. Named after notable party member, the KV could boast one of the heaviest armors in the world. As tensions between the Soviet Union and the European Alliance were rising prior to the European war, the soviet spy rings in Europe were busy at work. Many classified documents were accessed and many schematics of European weaponry were leaked to the Soviet Union.
By the time the war erupted, the Soviet Armies were well prepared to deal with the European combatants and the KV battle tank is the expression of these preparations. Based on the classified documents that were obtained from the spy rings, it became apparent that the European tank armies are yet to develop high-caliber cannon with substantial destructive power. The KV tank armor alloy and thickness were designed based on that and it proved a successful gamble.
In the first months of the war, the European alliance simply had no response to the KV. So effective was its armor that the Europeans were incapable of destroying it with their tanks or anti-tank weapons and had to rely on 88 mm anti-air guns or 105 mm guns to knock them out. This changed with the introduction of the Siege tank, but the KV tank remains a force to be reckoned with.
